I2C LCD adaptor

I just got a I2C adaptor for LCDs at the TRW swapmeet and am having trouble finding any documentation on it. Can anyone tell me what sort of commands should be sent to the board, or the IC part number (it appears to be sanded off in order to improve clearance).

For anyone else with this problem, after much googling it appears that the chip is a PCF8574, and is compatible with the F Malpartida's NewLiquidCrystal library.
